Audrey Hepburn Style
Audrey Hepburn's style is remembered for clean, simple lines, and in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) she wore what is often called the most famous little black dress of all time, a design by Hubert de Givenchy. This collection gathers the Pretty Retro pieces closest to that look, all designed in England and made by hand in Europe: the 1950s Audrey dress, boat-neck Bardot tops and bateau sweaters, hostess dresses and capri pants.
The Audrey dress
Our Audrey Hepburn dress is the 1950s Audrey Dress: a sleeveless dress with a high boat neckline, a deep V at the back and a cinched waistband, fitted all the way from the bodice to a long pencil skirt, with a back zip. Black is the colour for the Breakfast at Tiffany's look, and it also comes in wine and red.
How to get the Audrey Hepburn look
Keep to a short list of sleek shapes. Wear the Audrey dress with flats or heels and a headscarf, or choose a simpler outfit: a boat-neck Bardot top in black, ivory or red with capri pants and flat shoes. The bateau sweater, a striped knit with a classic boat neckline and a cropped length, is made to sit with capris for a Riviera-inspired look. The hostess dress, with its wing collar and covered buttons, is the dressier day-to-evening option.
Audrey Hepburn capri pants
Capri pants take their name from the Italian island of Capri and were worn by film stars including Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Ours are high-waisted and cropped to mid-calf, in black, red and gingham.
You will find the Audrey dress and its relatives in our wiggle dresses, boat necks and sweaters in our tops and the nautical edit, capris in our vintage trousers and the hostess dresses with our 1940s dresses. Sizes run from UK 8 to 18 and from S to XL, depending on the style; the size guide has the measurements.
